Creatures Taxidermy Tip : Nose

Published:
2.9K Views

Description

Its short and sweet, I finally got around to making this from the wolf that I had salted and turned her features.
Noses are an easy concept, it just takes awhile to get used to being able to cut the nasal septum easily for each nostrils to have a slice of their septum.

What you need:
animal that your skinning
gloves
a super sharp blade, exto knife is best
a blade sharpener
a cool place, keep out of sun
salt* optional*
PATIENCE taxidermy is a lengthy process

1.
Get the nose turned out to where you can see the heart shape of the nostrils and have a very sharp knife. Have it comfortable with you making little knicks in the septum to get a straight line. You might not get it right the first few times but it comes easier.

2. once you split it down the middle feel with your fingers as tou continue to cut down to where the nose pad is be sure not to cut through that, but if you do you can just epoxy it.

3. Now that you have cut to the nose pad start around each nostril and working the cartilage down to where your all on the same line and be sure to miss around the flap of the nose on the edges.

Used this yesterday, I remember reading it and telling myself I HAD to remember how to do this!
That nose area always pisses me off, its ALWAYS too thick. xD
But it worked! Very helpful!!

I also used your tail tutorial too. But I dunno. I did something wrong and I ended up breaking the tail. ;n; Maybe, does everything have to be like soaking wet or something? Because the feet and tail and everything that had bones in it, was a litle dry. But the toes never ripped. o-o And now im wondering if I can send a fox with half its tail off, to a tannery, if theyll tan the other half so I can put it back together..xD
